Identifying and Measuring Constructs

In this assignment, you will gain experience with identifying individual constructs
(attitudes, perceptions etc.) that you feel might be either influencing certain work-related behavior, or that could possibly influence work behavior in the future.
After identifying the constructs (a good resource to use for this is the “Taking the
Measure of Work” book) you will then create a ‘pulse survey’ that is intended to
assess the constructs directly.

Part 1: Using online sources, choose a specific issue as the framework for your survey.
The issue can be anything you are interested in… whether it’s ‘Quiet Quitting’, return to
office policies, AI integration… as long as you feel it is relevant to an organization.
Next, think about how individuals may perceive and feel about the issue, and how those
perceptions and feelings in turn might directly influence how they feel about their job or
employer.
Then, identify at least 2 psychological constructs that you believe might be relevant to
understanding how the employee might think and feel, and how their work behavior and
performance may be influenced.

Part 2: After identifying the constructs of interest, now define each construct-outcome
relationship that you could would be interested in assessing. For example, if you believe
that “perceived organizational support” (POS) is a relevant construct in influencing
employee perceptions and intentions regarding return to office (RTO) mandates, then
you would explain what that influence might be (i.e., the greater the employee’s POS,
the less resistance to RTO would be expected). For this section,

Part 3: To gather the data necessary to test these hypothesized relationships, you are
now to construct a diagnostic (i.e. pulse) survey.
The survey should have at least 3 questions per construct (considered as a set) and a
numeric scale (with or without descriptive anchors) that correspond to the construct(s).

Explain in detail:
– how the ‘face validity’ of the survey will be determined,
– the rationale for the scale range (odd or even),
– the scale orientation,
– and how you might minimize responder bias or dishonesty.

Please submit the survey as a separate document.
