Building the New Venture 3045IBA
Full instructions in attachment.
In this assessment you are an investor. You have AUD15,000 that you can invest in one or several ideas from this course.
You can invest all the capital in one idea or you divide as you see fit between several ideas and you do not have to use the whole amount – the important part is to motivate your decision. Your task is to evaluate the idea(s) you choose by using tools, frameworks, and concepts from the course and to conduct desktop research to motivate your decision – thus, based on your research explain why the idea(s) is/are a good investment.
Depending on the idea you chose you may need to focus on one or more aspects below to evaluate the idea
• Problem / opportunity
• Customer group and characteristics
• Market analysis
• Competitive analysis
• The Team
• New technology / trends
• Intellectual Property Protection (IPP)
• Finances – business model, break-even analysis.
You do not have to use all the topics above; it will depend on the idea you choose. For example, if the uniqueness of the idea you are interested in is a new technology, the focus could be on IPP and the opportunity; perhaps it is an untapped target group; or the team has unique skills that have a lot of potential; maybe a problem that is solved in a unique way; or is it the finances that are intriguing to you as an investor?
The important aspect to conclude from your analysis is: do you think this is a viable business? And why? Few ideas are perfect so remember to be critical and make an informed choice based on your analysis. This is the money you are investing so it is important to do the research.
