WSU History Telephone Society Influencing the Role of Women Essay – Description
The telephone demonstrates how a technology can change society. But it is also an example of how technologies, at least when they are first introduced, fit into existing social practices. Use Venus Green’s essay, “Personal Service in the Bell System,” and the documents, to discuss the ways in which telephones were put to use within the existing framework of gender roles in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
