World Mythology & Religions Paper – Description
Part 1
Topic Choice
A traditional https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/common_… is often one of the first steps to writing a research paper. We won’t be writing a research paper, but you will be compiling sources and considering them carefully as though we were. You will have 2 options to choose from, so please read the directions carefully and choose wisely!
OPTION 1: Choose one of the Norse myths we read for this unit and find 2 different re-tellings of it. Go beyond the text and look at other types of re-tellings; however, at least 1 of your 2 versions must be text based. For this option, you will also need to write a one paragraph introduction that provides an understanding of how translation impacts the study of mythology.
OPTION 2: “Before, the Beginning and After” is a creation myth. Find 2 more creation myths, each from a different culture. You may not use any version of the Greek/Roman creation myth. For this option, you will want to do a bit of research on different types of creation myths as well. For this option, you will also need to write a one paragraph introduction that provides an understanding of what creation myths are and their common motifs.
OPTION 3: After reviewing all the myths we have read and will read this semester, you might see a culture or motif that is missing. For this option, please find 2 myths from a culture or motif we do not study and complete the annotations below. If you do chose this option, you will also need to write a one paragraph introduction that provides an understanding of the culture or motif you are exploring.
OPTION 4: An academic inquiry of your own choice. However, you must get approval from me beforehand, so we can come up with the requirements together. For this option, you will also need to write a one paragraph introduction that provides an understanding of the academic inquiry you are making.
