WMBA 6030 WU Role of Business Information Systems Discussion – Description
Business information systems use information technologies to provide information businesses need to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. The primary components of business information systems are people, process, data, and information technologies such as hardware, software, and networks.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Identify an organization with which you are familiar. It could be your current or former place of employment, or it could be another organization about which you have sufficient information to respond to this week’s Discussion prompts.
Then consider the ways in which that organization uses information systems and the role that IS and IT play in the organization.
Post an analysis of the role of business information systems in your selected organization. In your analysis, be sure to address the following:
Identify three of the most important technologies and/or aspects of business information systems used in your selected organization.
Examine what role(s) these business information systems and technologies play in how the organization functions and conducts business.
Based on your analysis, identify at least one potential area for improvement in how this organization could improve its use of business information systems and technologies.

CM: In the selected organization, Well Done Virtual Assistant, several essential technologies and aspects of business information systems contribute to its functioning and operations. Three key technologies and elements in focus include customer relationship management (CRM) software, cloud computing, and data analytics.
CRM software, such as Dubsado, Zoho, or Honeybook, plays a pivotal role in Well Done Virtual Assistant’s operations. CRM enables the company to manage client relationships efficiently, track customer interactions, and streamline billing and bookkeeping processes (Chetu, n.d.). By utilizing CRM, the organization can enhance customer satisfaction, improve communication, and establish long-term relationships with mental health providers.
Cloud computing is another crucial aspect that can significantly benefit Well Done Virtual Assistant. By leveraging cloud computing services, the company can access computing resources, data storage, and applications on-demand through the Internet (Kantaria, 2019). Cloud computing eliminates the need for investing in expensive hardware and software infrastructure and allows for scalability and flexibility in meeting client needs.
Colossal data analytics technologies are vital for Well Done Virtual Assistant to gain valuable insights from the vast amount of data they handle. Analyzing data related to mental health billing, bookkeeping, and customer interactions can enable the company to identify trends, optimize operations, and make informed business decisions (Abbasi, Sarker, & Chiang, 2016).
These business information systems and technologies contribute to the organization’s efficiency, productivity, and competitive advantage. CRM software streamlines client management, leading to improved customer satisfaction and loyalty. Cloud computing offers cost-effective and scalable infrastructure, enhancing the company’s agility and accessibility. Data analytics facilitates data-driven decision-making, allowing the organization to identify opportunities for growth and optimization.
Based on the analysis, one potential area for improvement in Well Done Virtual Assistant’s use of business information systems and technologies could be the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI can enhance data analysis capabilities, automate repetitive tasks, and provide personalized insights to mental health providers (Fearn, 2019). The organization can improve its efficiency and service quality by incorporating AI-driven solutions, such as AI-powered chatbots for customer support or predictive analytics for billing and bookkeeping.
2) JTR: Three of the most important technologies and/or aspects of business information systems used in my selected organization include computer processing units, inventory management systems and transaction processing systems.
Computer processing units (CPU) provide the support for inventory management systems (IMS) and transaction processing systems (TPS) to thrive. Without CPUs, there won’t be an IMS or TPS to operate.
Inventory management systems assist the organization in keeping track of inventory and what is available to sell at any given time. This is a very important role as it also helps us to calculate the value of existing inventory and ultimately put a dollar value on our assets.
A transaction processing system is a system that “collects data from users and generates a bill” or an order. (System, 2019) TPS’s allow us to sell the inventory that is in stock via a store front or via our online shop by providing the tools to collect data from customers and generate an order.
A major improvement of these systems and technologies can come from implementing a more user friendly, up to date system that can process data more efficiently. This would be considered improving data management and it can be done with more specialized software that can also “track customer behavior” and “analyze market trends” (IT, n.d.)

Cloud Computing
When demand for computing resources exceeds what an organization’s business information system can provide, that organization might need to buy and install new hardware and software. This situation can be costly, especially if it continues to occur. Another solution to this problem could be cloud computing. Through these resources, you will explore how cloud computing offers on-demand delivery of computing resources, including servers, storage, databases, and other critical computing resources. You will also consider how cloud computing can benefit and impact a business.
