Western Nevada College Glacier National Park Report – Question Description
I’m working on a writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Read Donal Carbaugh and Lisa Rudnick’s essay on Glacier National Park.
Prompt. Write a 3-paragraph reading report of at least 400 words that addresses the following points.
Paragraph 1. How do non-native tour guides at Glacier National Park tend to talk about place names and stories related to the park?
Paragraph 2. How do Native American (Blackfoot) tour guides talk about place names and stories related to the park? To what extent is this similar to or different from what Carbaugh and Rudnick observed about white tour guides?
Paragraph 3. What’s the “so what?” here? What do you think Carbaugh and Rudnick are trying to prove in this analysis, beyond simply pointing out that native and non-Native tour guides perceive Glacier National Park differently? Are there any takeaways here that might help us understand intercultural communication more generally?
