The assignment is a case analysis that draws on all the learning from the course. The assignment aims to assess (1) your familiarity and understanding of strategic management terminology, concepts, and frameworks and (2) how you apply those frameworks to examining, evaluating, and providing recommendations in a real business scenario.
The assignment will consist of several essay questions about a specific case study. You will need to analyze the company situation and provide specific recommendations. Your analysis and recommendations should be justified using relevant concepts from the class.
Use the “LEGO (A): The Crisis” case study. After reading the case study, write a paper that answers the following four questions:
What are the external factors that contributed to Lego Group’s decline? Use Porter’s Five Forces (Customer Power, Threat of Substitutes, Threat of New Entry, Supplier Power, and Rivalry) to organize your response to this question.
What internal factors led the LEGO Group to the edge of bankruptcy?
What is your assessment of management’s actions during “the growth period that wasn’t” (1993-1998) and “the fix that wasn’t” (1999-2004)?
As Jørgen Knudstorp, what would you do throughout the LEGO Group in order to turn the company around? Be specific.
