Content
1
Introduction
200
This should expand on the purpose section that was in the abstract it will set out the aim of the research, and the context for the research and tell the reader why it merits research
2
Literature
2000
Expanding on the literature reviewed in the abstract use this section to demonstrate your awareness of the literature that informs your study. This may include academic/ professional/ databases/ media etc. depending upon the topic that you choose. We expect you to be able to identify the key theories and the most relevant other sources of information that you will use. You are expected to:
Present and critically analyse knowledge in a coherent literature review which identifies gaps in knowledge that allows you to appropriately investigate the subject matter.
3
Methodology
300
Taking the information provided in the abstract and the ethics forms explain how the research was conducted. This section while should provide a clear guide as to what you did and why it was done that way. It should set out what methodological approach was taken and why, it should discuss the type of sample achieved and how that sample was accessed/recruited. This in turn should lead to a brief explanation of how the results will be analysed.
Good research should be replicable think of this as a guide or instructions so anyone wishing to replicate your research would know what you did and why you did it that way.
4
Results and Discussion
1100
How this is split will depend on the approach taken
Results
Depending on the approach taken this may for quantitative research be presented in the form of graphs table charts accompanied by description of what has been presented. Or if a qualitative approach has been taken, this may be presented in a written form where you describe what you found.
Discussion
In this section you need to discuss what your findings mean. Please remember that this is effectively a discussion of how your results compare to the information that you identified from the literature review. Do the results you have agree with the literature, differ from the literature, does what you have found allow you to complete any gaps that were identified.
5
Limitations
200
What are the limitations of your research? how could it be improved? are your results reliable and representative? can you generalise from what you have found? This requires you to consider how the methods employed may have influenced the outcome of your research.
6
Conclusion
200
Did you achieve what you set out to do in the introduction?
You should not introduce anything new here but state what the key things that came out of the previous sections are.
7
Reference list
Not included in word count
Ensure that you reference your work consistently using the APA format for guidance see: Make sure you reference research methods texts in sections 2 and 5
8
Appendices
Not included in word count
If you feel that it is necessary to provide extra information please attach it as an appendix. This should only be used to support the information in the other sections. If you do use one please ensure that there is a signpost within the text to explain to the reader what it is for. For example:
This may be where you attach a blank copy of the research instrument used.
You could use it to present detailed secondary information that you have effectively summarized in one of the sections.
