Homegrown terrorist are individuals who are radicalized within their own country and carry out acts of violence or support terrorism without direct affiliation to international terrorist organization. While each case may vary, the United States has experienced two styles of homegrown attacks or attempted attacks. There are individuals who become radicalized by personal experiences and those who involve a similar path to radicalization, which involves some type of foreign connection. Those who become radicalized by personal experiences, sermons influenced by listening to radical sermons by family members and friends. This encourages them to commit suicide bombings. The book also mentions hybrid terrorist, a homegrown jihadist returning, experienced and trained. Although homegrown jihadist appears in different areas of the United States, they are not an American problem alone. Homegrown terrorist is nothing new and simply a person who hears a radical message and decides to pursue the radical goal.
