Troy University Criminal Justice Police Department Discussion – Description
Let me tell you briefly here about what we’re going to do for this week’s assignment. So this stack and I already started talking about it. So for this week’s writing assignment that’s tied to the teams meeting, you’re going to have a twopart project. Does not have to be extremely lengthy, but what you are going to do is you are going to craft a social media policy for your department.
It can be a Police Department, a correctional institution, district attorney’s office, juvenile justice facility, whatever criminal justice organization you want to choose. But you are going to craft a social media policy that discusses what your employees can and cannot do on social media.
30:04
You can be as specific as you want or, you know, kind of as broad as you want, But make sure you address the various types of social media. So don’t just say Facebook. For example, make sure that they understand that your social media policy would address Facebook TikTok.
30:21
Instagram. Whatever other social media you want to include in your your policy. You don’t have to go through every individual social media policy, but make sure you hit the main types you’re you’re tweeting or just standard text based social media. Facebook, which is integrated. Instagram, which is integrated with video, pictures and text, or Tiktok, which is just. I’ll be honest, it’s just hilarious skits. I really don’t know of any purpose for Tiktok beyond.
30:50
Hilarious skits, but I myself have gotten lost in the TikTok wormhole. You you start off looking in one video and the algorithm they have for you just start sending you crazier and crazier stuff and you’re just sitting there scrolling through it before you know you’ve killed 20. So your social media policy can address what they can and cannot post, as well as what social media can they use from your organization’s computers and or mobile devices.
31:19
So for example, I work for the state of Alabama. Our social media policy limits the types of apps that we can use. We are not allowed to have TikTok on any state issue device. They it’s just across the board can’t have TikTok. We have an exemption because we work in a special Victims division. So we investigate crimes against children that involve all the social media apps. So we’re allowed to have it but for as a general rule.
31:48
Can’t can’t have TikTok our post. We can’t make any post on any social media page that has to do with an ongoing investigation and or anything that could be deemed to show our office supporting a particular political candidate or something like that. So it doesn’t matter who I want to vote for, if I make any postings about politics I have to make sure that there is nothing in that post that identifies me as an employee of XYZ agency for the state of Alabama.
32:19
So your policy could do that. The first part of that, that’s the that’s the second part. The first part is just going to be a half a page to a page, single spaced discussion of why you need to implement a social media. All right. If you want to, you can put it in a memo form like you’re sending it to the head of your organization to from date, reason social media policy and then dear Chief blank.
32:46
I am writing today to ask that you consider this social media policy that I have drafted. I have seen XYZ in terms of social media violations throughout the and then any justification you want to use for the creation of a social media policy. Does that make sense? Yeah, pretty straightforward. I figured that’ll be about 1/2 a page to a page. The social media policy itself will be spaced out a little bit different. It’s probably gonna be a page, page, and 1/2 as well and then I’ll create a link that will not be due.
