The SMAC Topic, Question and Outline:
The SMAC is an analysis and discussion of a specific healthcare operation problem as it manifests itself in a health care facility. The analysis must be related to work experience and self-directed. Please note that students cannot use HIPAA or Health Information Technology topics.
Students must follow the outline below. Your SMAC will be graded based on how well you follow the outline below. Students should specifically include section headings as delineated in the outline below. The Self-Directed Managerial Abilities Component (SMAC) will be graded as indicated below:

Introduction and Problem Statement
State the purpose of the SMAC. Clearly define the topic to be discussed. You must include the specific topic subsections/questions as listed above. Support your above discussion with references (proper citations) to material in textbook, research, etc.

Relevant Facts Concerning Catchment Area and/or Facility

Discussion of SMAC topic. You must include policy, social and/or political issues relevant to your SMAC topic. Students should first discuss relevant healthcare operations management issues relevant to their SMAC topic. Students could then include external organizations’ position and/or advocacy related to your SMAC topic. You may discuss how your SMAC topic is affected by external forces.

Quality and Quantity of Research Sources
A. You are required to demonstrate that you have conducted appropriate research from scholarly resources.
B. A minimum of five sources, other than the textbook must be cited. You may use, but are not required to use, materials found in Blackboard.
C. Citing must be proper. You must cite throughout your SMAC.

Writing Proficiency
You will be graded based on writing style; composition, organization; grammar; sentence structure, ability to communicate your thoughts and ideas and spelling.
When including tables or charts, you must make sure they are properly cited and discussed in the text showing relevance. ( Please include at least 1 table or chart in this research)

Ethical Issues
What ethical/diversity issues are raised by your analysis, i.e., equity, rationing care by limited services, selection of patients of program services, use of limited resources, unequal or preferred services, deceptive marketing, & etc.
Ethical considerations must be incorporated into the SMAC as the ethical behavior of health car
