The purpose of this assignment is to create a video commercial to communicate a recent change in HIT on any topic in this course. These topics include policies, procedures, applications, electronic health records, analytics, patient safety initiatives, or quality improvement project results.
The goal of the video commercial is to inspire staff to embrace the planned change, complete mandatory educational program on the change, and highlight the role of the APN in leading the change.
WCU provides several Microsoft programs for your use and Panopto to create videos. You may use any video creation program, graphics, and other programs, such as PowerPoint and Excel.
You will need to upload your video through Panopto so make sure it is compatible format.
Step 1: Create a video script with these minimum characteristics:
Open with a hook, catchy phrase, or tagline to capture attention.
A simple story or message – the story is everything to keep your audience engaged.
Use direct language – show the audience your message rather than telling them your message.
Include a call to action – always provide the next step, such as go to a website or scan a QR code.
Keep within the time restrictions. Depending on the nature of your topic, your video should be precisely 30 or 60 seconds in length.
The target audience is your coworkers (represented by class peers and instructor in this exercise).
Avoid any confidential information as the video will be peer reviewed in next week’s discussion.
Step 2: Additional tips for an effective commercial:
Keep the story creative and interesting – make it memorable.
Employ an emotional pull, whether upbeat like humor or thoughtful like empathy, combined with an easy-to-remember message to attract viewers.
Push boundaries with your story but be authentic with the right tone.
Use voice-overs to ensure the viewer hears your message. You can appear as a spokesperson or character in your video but that is not required.
Think about the best place to film your commercial and consider factors like lighting. Sound, background, and graphics.
Use brand icons/logos judiciously.
Step 3: Practice the content and timing.
Step 4: Rename the files with your last name and short topic.
Step 5: Upload the video script file and the video to week 7 assignment in Canvas using Panopto.
