For this paper, you will turn in approximately three pages of material towards your final researched argument essay. (You should have at least four fleshed out paragraphs.) This draft will be the set up or start of your researched argument. These pages will contain the first parts of a classical oration wherein you explain the problem and its current debate and background; you should also have a working thesis.it will also begin to fill out the body of your paper.
You may add notes/outline with any points you wish to make in the rest of your project (reason/s for your stance with evidence, idea/s to refute or attend to the opposition, concluding thoughts you want to be sure to remember).
Make sure to state the problem and current sides of debate, any important background, and your stance on the issue. Your “stance” could still be in the form of a fact claim (this IS a problem to be aware of) or, if possible, it should be in the form of a proposal claim (someone should do something about this problem).
Include the following sections:
Introduction: You try to win the attention and goodwill of an audience while introducing a topic or problem.
Background: You present the facts of the case, explaining what happened when, who is involved, and so on. The part puts an argument in context.
Thesis: Explaining what your claim is, what the key issues are, and list your points in the order they will be treated. This thesis would either be stated at the end of the introduction paragraph or at the end of the background paragraph.
First Body Paragraph: Fill out the first body paragraph with your first reason that underpins your main claim or with any type of information you think goes here.
Second Body Paragraph: Fill out the second body paragraph with your first reason that underpins your main claim or with any type of information you think goes here.
Steps
This draft should be the start of your longer researched project wherein you explain (or begin to explain) the “facts” of your chosen issue.
This draft should include material from at least three of your current sources along with your voice to create the set up for your longer researched argument.
You may choose to follow this example (until I find a better one): Beginning Draft of Researched Argument Paper.pdf Download Beginning Draft of Researched Argument Paper.pdf
Outcome
You should be putting thoughts to paper and beginning to get an idea of how to organize your material.
Requirements
Your draft’s formatting should still follow standard MLA Style guidelines. NOTE: This draft must be turned in prior to your final researched argument, and the material within these pages must change at least slightly when integrated within a full researched argument project.
Your Draft’s Evaluation
This draft is a completion points project. This means anything you turn in will earn full points if on time, as long as it is a real start of your paper. I will be glad to go over these drafts with you during computer lab time, but I will offer some feedback to everyone who submits this assignment. Depending upon when I receive this draft, I may not be able to give extensive or detailed feedback on this assignment, but I will look over your work and offer guidance towards finishing your researched argument essay.
