Response 1.) The BMC article examines creating an IT strategy (Hertvik, 2019). Organizations must develop a plan that meets organizational needs, improves business processes, and provides maintenance and support for the services.
IT services should also include Risk Management and mitigation, which ensures secure systems. Adequate backup and availability assurance should also be included in the strategy.

Response 2.) Since IT is a strategic partner and not just a support service, the IT department should resist the temptation of ad-hoc head count reduction. A major goal of IT is to do more with fewer people, so that staff should already be lean.
Operational Necessity: IT infrastructure is the backbone of modern businesses. Reducing the IT department could jeopardize the smooth running of essential systems and processes that depend on constant maintenance and upgrades.
Efficiency and Automation: As companies downsize, they often need to do more with less. IT can provide solutions through automation and efficient data management, helping remaining staff members be more productive and focused on core activities.
Security and Risk Management: With the increasing threat of cyberattacks, downsizing IT could expose the company to significant security risks. IT departments play a critical role in safeguarding company data and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Supporting Remote Work: IT is fundamental in setting up and maintaining the infrastructure needed for remote work, especially in current times. This is particularly crucial as downsizing might result in more flexible work arrangements.
