t’s June! Summer is on its way, and so are many U.S. Supreme Court decisions – especially during the last two weeks of June. The Court has been hearing cases since October. It’s this month when most of the decisions will be handed down. Look at the link to “2022-2023 Supreme Court Cases” below. This is a list of cases heard by the Court this term. Look at the cases and their descriptions. Find 3 cases you are interested in to report about. Then, go to Step 3. 2022-2023 Supreme Court Cases.xlsx
Step 3: Analyze and Evaluate
After selecting 3 cases, conduct research to fully understand the facets of the case. You may not use Wikipedia or any encyclopedias. These do NOT have to be long pieces of information, but you need to learn enough to explain the case and its decision by the Court.Step 4: Write the Paper
Using the background resources provided above in addition to briefly researching 3 Supreme Court cases of your choosing from the list of 2022-2023 cases, write a two page paper (Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced) that shows you understand the significance of a case that makes it to the Supreme Court.Your paper should consist of 3 different sections (one section for each case) following this format:
For each case: give the title; explain in your own words what the case is about and what the legal/constitiutional issue(s) are; the decision of the Court; and whether or not (and why) you agree with the Court’s decision. If the decision has not been announced by the due date of the paper (July 1), tell what you think the decision should be and why. Be sure to use citations throughout for all information you are paraphrasing.
Conclusion paragraph: Give a brief summary paragraph to wrap up your paper about the 3 cases.
