This assessment task requires students to apply the biopsychosocial model to a specific field of practice that social workers may work in. Students are required to describe the field through the lens of the biopsychosocial model, noting important biological psychological and social phenomena that social workers can expect to encounter in the field of practice and describe important therapeutic and supportive approaches social workers may take when working in that field, in keeping with a biopsychosocial approach.

Indigenous Social Work, Aged Care, Child Protection, Disability, Mental Health, Youth Justice and Domestic Violence.

Part A

Describe your chosen field of practice through the lens of the biopsychosocial model, noting important biological psychological and social phenomena that social workers can expect to encounter in the field of practice. Also describe important therapeutic and supportive approaches social workers may take when working in that field, in keeping with a biopsychosocial approach. (1250 words) 30 marks.

Part B 

Give a 5-minute presentation on important knowledge and skills needed to practice from a biopsychosocial perspective in this field of practice. Note if presentation is shorter than 4 minutes 30 seconds or longer than 5 minutes 30 seconds marks will be deducted.

Give one example of how you would use one of these skills or one piece of knowledge on behalf of a hypothetical client. Nominate where your specific example fits within the micro, mezzo, macro framework of social work practice (5-minutes). 20 marks
