SU Comparison and Contrast Essay – Description
The fourth essay will be a comparison/contrast of the TED TALK video and a short 8-minute film entitled “Alike” found on the Key Resources link and in Week 4. The video and the film present causes and effects and have the same theme about creativity, but the theme is presented in two very different methods. View each one carefully so that you can discuss how they are similar and how they are different. Use specific examples as much as possible so that the reader is clear on the points of comparison and the points of contrast.
The essay should have an introduction that effectively catches the reader’s attention, identifies the video and the film, and presents your specific thesis. For the development of your thesis in the body of the essay, you will need to decide to use the one side at a time strategy OR point by point. The main body of the essay may be organized one side at a time or point by point, but either way the main body should describe specific details, so the reader clearly understands how the video and the film are alike and different. The conclusion should review the major points and may suggest which one—the video or the film—is more effective or if they both make their points in an equally effective manner.
