2 Students are assigned to provide security design recommendations for an IT company’s new 4 storey building located at Aljunied Central.

3 A written report submission of minimum 2500 words is required.

4 A project assignment is upon 100 marks (weightage is 60%) as part of overall assessment of this subject.

5 The Architect has designed the following measures for the new IT building at Aljunied Central.

a) There is 2.4 m perimeter welded mesh fence line with a vehicular (steel) sliding gate and staff entrance (full height turnstile) of the same height are provided at the facility.

b) The main vehicular sliding gate and full height turnstile are facing the main road, 3 storey building located both sides of the new IT building and dense vegetation at the back of building.

c) The building is designed with fixed glass façade.

d) There is one main glass door entrance into the building and 2 fire escape staircases proposed with wooden doors.

e) A guard house is proposed next to the main vehicular sliding gate.

f). The Visitor management system is proposed at the IT Building Reception Counter.

g) The office blocks on both sides are located 3m away from the new IT building fence line.

h) The space allocation for the new main office building is as follow:

(i) 1st Storey – Main Lobby, Lift (2 nos) lobby, Reception Counter, Security Control Room, Mail room, Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) and Generator 2 speed gates are proposed at the Main lobby providing access to Lift lobby.

(ii) 2ndStorey – Meeting rooms (3 no), Administrative Department (office area), consisting of Mail Sorting room and Confidential Document Storage room.

(iii) 3rdStorey – HR Department (office area), consisting of Document Compactus Room. 2 Server rooms consisting of racks (4 no) openable front and back and a LAN room.

(iv.) 4thStorey – Senior Management Offices, Board and Function rooms.

(v) Mechanical & Electrical and Security rises are located at every floor.

(vi) Wooden doors are proposed for all rooms mentioned above.

(vii) Lift landing at each floor is an enclosed area provided with a glass door.

6. A risk assessment has already been conducted and a security risk level of Medium has been identified. Security mitigation measures should be based on the following threats.

a. The following threats were identified for the risk assessment conducted: i. Internal Threats (Theft, Vandalism, Sabotage, Arson & Theft of Confidential Information).

ii. External Threats (Intrusion, Theft, Vandalism, Sabotage, Arson, Theft of Confidential Information & Vehicle Ramming).

7. The project requires the student to prepare the following:

Concept Plan proposing the security zoning and security measures (physical & electronic) for the new 4 storey IT building, based on the protection in depth & 5 Ds approach.

8. Consideration should be given to the operation of the facility when proposing the security control measures. The control measures should not hinder the daily operation of the facility.

9. Project Report Format: –

a. Introduction of the project assignment

b. Risk Assessment

i. Identify Threats (info given in project assignment)

ii. Identify Assets (based on the info given in project assignment)

iii. Brief summary on the risk assessment (based on the info given in project assignment).

c. Preparation of Concept Plan (based on the protection in depth approach:

i. Adjacent/Perimeter protection

ii. Building protection

iii. Space protection

iv. Object protection and recommendation of mitigation security measures (physical & electronic measures etc.)

d. Objectives and functions of each proposed security devices to be highlighted in the individual report. e.
