Student Loan Debt Mess Discussion – Description
This week’s readings (well, readings and a watching) present themselves very differently while still providing some basic background information to start us off in researching this topic. For this week’s discussion board post, after completing the readings/lecture/slides for this week, leave a comment at least 300 words long answering some (but not all!) of the questions below, and then leave a comment on one of your classmate’s posts. How much of this information is new to you? Did you have any idea of what the student loan debt crisis was prior to these readings? What new information did you learn that surprised you? How are the authors of The Student Loan Debt Mess and the presenter (Adam) of Adam Ruins Everything different in their presentation to their audiences? What genres are they working in? Comedy? Educational material? How do we know they are credible? What audiences are they addressing – incoming students or people with previous knowledge of the situation? Are their works popular or scholarly? How do you know? And, lastly, how do they view the student loan debt crisis? Are their conclusions about the causes different, or similar? Would they both say that is a crisis? How might their intended audiences or their own positions (a young comedian, older professionals) change the way they characterize the problem?
