My preferred name is Tyler, and I will be working on this course Tuesday-Friday from 12:00-4:00, as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00-2:00.  I chose these specific times and dates because they align well with my work schedule, and still allow for some free times in the evenings.  My internet backup plan is to connect to the campus Wifi downtown.  For the videos and articles that I watched/read, many ideas and points stood out to me.  In the video: This is Statistics’ (2015), I found it particularly interesting that those speaking found that statistics is applicable to every aspect of life.  From online shopping algorithms that display consumers interests, to solving hunger and other humanitarian issues, statistics help us understand how to better develop and revise techniques in order to solve and improve issues, and taking a course on this subject matter will teach individuals these skills.  Secondly, in the video: This is Statistics’ (2018), I found it most compelling the interpreting statistics portion.  Without being able to understand and interpret statistical data, these metrics are useless.  Taking a course and learning more about how to interpret statistics will prove to be extremely valuable.Next, for the video: This is Statistics’ (2017), I think it is valuable to touch on the aspect of being able to come to conclusions about statistics.  The last step to interpreting metrics is being able to apply them and conclude a specific thought or reason for the statistic.  Learning how to do this by taking a statistics course is essential to every day life.In Cherry’s (2019) article, I took away that amidst endless statistics and data, being able to pick apart and understand information is essential.  A lot of the time individuals are unable to peel back information and focus on the meat of a metric, and taking a statistics class will allow people to dig deeper and fully comprehend information. In the article: Nediger (2019), I enjoyed learning how communicating information learned through statistics is crucial.  Taking a course in statistics is crucial to not only learning how to interpret statistics, but also communicating it to a wider range of individuals so they can use it in their every day lives.Lastly, in the infographic from Andrews (2019), I learned that multitudes of careers use statistics in their every day careers.  Through taking a course through statistics, you prepare yourself for almost every career imaginable to encounter and understand a statistic.  In the other section of Andrews (2019), I also took away that in your every day life statistics is used.  From buying a house to drafting a fantasy football team, taking a statistics course allows individuals to better comprehend the world around them through various statistics and metrics. Finally, I found the Nediger (2019) article to be the most relevant to my life and future career.  Since I am planning on studying nursing, being able to communicate statistics in an understandable way to patients is crucial to helping them assess risks and benefits to treatments or a lack there of.  ( response of 200 words above mention on the post)

For example, as a politician, it would be important to understand statistics so one can estimate their chances of winning an election. From Andrews (2019) infographic on “Statistics in the Real World,” statistics can be helpful when you are buying a house. For example, understanding statistics can help you decide if the house you’re looking at has a fair price. My fifth reason, from Andrews (2019) on “Careers that use Statistics.”, is that statistics can be used in every career, of every size. Statistics can be helpful ranging from large corporations, stay-at-home moms, and even voting. My sixth reason, from the infographic Andrews (2019) on “Statistics in the Real World”, is that statistics has many real-world applications. They use an example of statistics used in fantasy football, which I thought was interesting how statistics can even relate to hobbies. I believe that statistics being used in psychology and research is most relevant to me. My major is psychology, so it will definitely be useful in all of my classes, and to have a better overall understanding data. Understanding statistics and data is a huge part of research that I will be doing in my future. Reply
