Shepherd University Elevator Pitch Outline – Description
Bio:
Video conferencing and job interviews have become the norm over the past 4 months. When the question “Tell me a little about yourself” pops up, you have to be ready will a simple but specific answer. It should be a casual and easy delivery, so it is necessary to memorize it thoroughly. Follow the guidelines in the assignment. I have included examples as well as text to help you with your compositions.
I would like for you to e-mail me a text of your Bio and Pitch so that I can edit it and make sure you have the information well constructed. Please get these in as soon as possible and if you do not here back within 48 hrs, contact me again. These will be memorized and edited and both will then be uploaded. Any questions can be submitted to me via e-mail. Instructions for submitting your videos to Studio are below the Video Presentation Rubric, Bio Outline, and example Bio video.
Elevator Pitch Outline
Elevator Pitch Outline: This hypothetical example is an improvisational exercise usually done impromptu in class. You are speaking to a group of people on a desert island who have never seen or heard of fire. You want them to buy your idea.
Create Interest: Start with a hypothetical question or a problem that you have the answer to. If you were pitching fire you may say, “Wouldn’t it be great to have light when the sun goes down and keep the animals away at the same time?” The response would more than likely be yes and it would create immediate interest.
The Solution: Fire! Explain that you have discovered fire and that you can recreate it.
Explain its potential: What can it do and all the ways it can be used. If you are prepared and have a list of uses it will not only impress your contact but increase the value of the product.
Who will want it: Who will want/benefit from the product. You will want to mention that others will pay a great deal for the product. In this case, not just your village but others.
Set a meeting: You don’t have the time to go into all the details but if you could speak to the council you have a presentation prepared that would explain everything.
There are many uses for this kind of presentation and the important thing to remember is that you must be able to present it efficiently, without mistakes and in a very comfortable and assertive way. You cannot do this extemporaneously or impromptu; like any good presentation it must be planned out and rehearsed. There are no shortcuts when it comes to preparation.
In this task, I want you to come up with some kind of pitch that you think your particular job situation would benefit from. You can pitch anything from commercial or TV show ideas to reinventing the wheel. If you’re a treckie, go with transporter technology; nothing is too crazy this is just a pitch exercise. Keep it around a minute.
