Selection of Location Discussion – Description

Activity Objective:  Select a region or individual country to research, analyze and report for your ITRAG team/group project. Any country or region in the world is acceptable with the exclusion of the United States as a single country.  However, your team could select a single state or region of the United States (West Coast, New England, Colorado, etc.) – just not the entire U.S. However, you are strongly encouraged to look outside the United States as there is a great deal going in with respect to Information Technology outside the United States. Besides, the title of this course includes the work “global” which should imply we are exploring the state of information technology from a broadly non-domestic perspective.
A couple of criteria to think about as your team is selecting a region or country:

First it should be an area of the world that your team finds interesting. Often, the less you know starting on something like this, the more fun it is to work on.
Second, you should think about an area of the world where you have reasonable expectations of being able to find useful information about its information technology industry. With access to so much information on the internet about such things, the odds are good that you will find information on virtually any area of the world, but the more you can find about it, the more interesting your efforts will be.

Once your team has selected its region or country, you will need to prepare a short summary of your selection rationale that addresses these items:

Clear description of the region or country you have selected.
Why you selected it.
What is the form of government in your selected region/country (republic, socialist, oligarchy, autocracy, etc.)?
The name of at least one technology provider, technology product, or general product area strongly associated with your selected region/country.
What are 2-3 specific things you want to learn about this region/country with respect to information technology?
Any other information your team considers relevant at this stage of the overall project.
