San Jose State University Design a Questionnaire Discussion – Description

As we discussed briefly when we talked about designing a survey, a questionnaire is not a survey. A survey entails all the procedures for collecting information, while a questionnaire is the specific instrument containing the questions you are going to ask.In this discussion, we will focus on the questionnaire, not only the questions but having the right instructions and the right layout.Chapter 8 emphasizes the importance of the flow and layout of the questionnaire (pages 148-151). Having respondent-friendly instructions can make a huge difference in getting accurate responses as well as in response rates. Similarly, when designing a questionnaire, you need to pay attention to even the minimal details regarding layout. Please make sure you go over pages 148-152 before you develop a short questionnaire. If your independent variable is discreet, like gender or student classification, make sure you include one question for your independent variable and at least three for your dependent variable. If your independent variable is interval, make sure you have for at least three questions for each of your variables (three for your independent variable and three for your dependent variable). Given that the focus on this discussion is the layout and flow of the questionnaire, please use attachments if you find canvas too constrictive.
