San Diego State University Employee Disengagement Is Rising Discussion – Description

Reflect on how your research is going so far. Share one “win” and one challenge that you’ve faced and explain how you’re working to overcome it.
**MY RESEARCH TOPIC IS** My research’s primary goal is to comprehend why employee disengagement is rising and how employer branding can be utilized to raise engagement and boost retention. I will use quantitative and qualitative methodologies to investigate my hypothesis that corporate branding significantly affects employee engagement and retention. To learn more about employees’ experiences in firms of various sizes with employer branding, I will review the literature on the subject and conduct qualitative interviews with those employees. To analyze the effect of employer branding, I will also use survey or questionnaire approaches to get quantitative data from employees. My research is significant because it can assist companies in developing an effective employer branding strategy that will eventually help them increase employee engagement and lower employee turnover. Through this research, I hope to learn more about how employer branding might affect employee engagement and retention and offer employers practical, fact-based advice on how to accomplish this nicely.
**STUDENT #1 ASHLY: RESPOND 150 WORDS
My research efforts have been challenging, but it is getting better every week. In the beginning, I had a hard time finding a research topic that I wanted to research as well as one I thought was an actual problem. Our previous discussions explained how important it is to find research that actually poses a problem in an industry but also is something interesting and helpful to the reader. I finally decided on employee turnover in the fastfood industry. While it was hard to find research in the beginning, it became a lot easier once my topic was narrowed down. Johnston & Croix (2018) explain that it is important to know what your research is going to benefit. Similar to our discussions, if your research is not helpful or can not eventually be solved, there is no point in conducting that research.
A win I have had in this class so far is the help from our professor. I have always struggled with finding aliging concepts with my research. In classes past, I ignored my struggles and concerns and just wrote what I thought the professor wanted without getting clarification. I knew I didn’t want to repreat those mistakes this go around and made sure to reach out if I needed help. My biggest suggestion is to not be proud or afraid to reach out to the professor if you are struggling with something! There are no dumb questions and even if you think it is it’s not worth losing points!
STUDENT #2 TREVIN- 150 WORDS
The research topic I have been researching is, what leadership traits do certain leaders possess that enable them to lead well during uncertainty and other challenges.  There are some parallels to in-extremis type leadership that we have seen exemplified in the military during wars, but I am focusing on this type of leadership in business, as there is less of an emphasis on this type of leadership in business compared to when I was in the military.
One win I have found is that there are some traits, and even personality types that are present in these types of leaders.  I have had several interviews with business leaders that grew their businesses and their staff during the initial 12-14 months of the COVID pandemic.  The commonalities between these leaders’ traits is undeniable and seems very objective that these leaders’ organization excelled due to their leadership.
One challenge with this research project, as with any research project that steps into the subjective realm, as leadership does, is to establish the link between leadership and results.  I think this is overcome when contrasting examples are referenced that show that the lack of leadership (specifically leadership traits) resulted in the poor performance of a company.
