Rasmussen University Systemic Inequality in Early Childhood Education Discussion – Description

Teaching in the early childhood field is more complex and challenging than perhaps, a few decades ago. Over the past decade, diversity in ECE and programs has grown significantly. According to the United States Census (2012), culturally and linguistically diverse children under the age of 5 made up 49.9 percent of the population. Diversity is also reflected in other ways, such as socioeconomic status, gender/sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and the ability/disability continuum. Diversity can be observed all around us. Please take a moment to reflect on a current issue that demonstrates systemic inequality within the early childhood education field related to teaching in a diverse society.
