Rasmussen University Early Childhood Professionalism Video – Description
Overview
Early childhood education (ECE) professionals demonstrate professionalism in their relationships and work with young children and their families, colleagues, and the communities in which they practice. Professionalism includes interacting with your colleagues, children, and their families professionally, adhering to the professional standards of your ECE organization, and modeling what professional behavior looks like at all times. ECE professionals are reflective practitioners who engage in continuous professional development to ensure their career growth and children’s academic growth. ECE professionals collaborate with other ECE professionals, parents and families, and our communities to ensure high-quality early childhood education. Through this practice, ECE professionals support the profession’s advancement in their ECE programs and the wider community. We recognize that our conduct as professionals contributes to the public’s trust in the ECE profession.
Scenario
Your center director has asked each lead teacher in your program to create a “TED Talk” video on professionalism. Four of the best videos will be showcased during a local early childhood professional development event. You are excited at the chance to have your video be a part of this professional development event.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will create a “TED Talk” style video to dive into a selected topic that makes you curious and want to explore that passion further. Please note, if you are unfamiliar with “TED Talk” style videos, search YouTube and review a few education professionals’ TED Talks before starting this assignment.
First, select a topic on professionalism in early childhood education (ECE) that sparks your interest from one of the following topics (it should be something that you are comfortable talking about, and you might consider yourself knowledgeable in the topic):
Characteristics and behavior of effective professional ECE staff members
Teacher competency and the skills and knowledge needed to work with children and families
Effective communication and relationship-building
Moral and ethical behavior and how to connect your practice to the NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Conduct
Joining a Community of Practice or Professional Organization to support professional development
Ways to advocate for children and families in ECE
Next, you will need to write bulleted talking points for a 2 to 4 minutes TED Talk that:
Introduces yourself, current role in ECE, and years of experience working with children and families.
Reflects on your professionalism in early childhood education.
Includes details on why you believe your current practices support professionalism in early childhood education settings.
Explains the selected topic and how you exhibit the selected topic in your daily work.
Summarizes how the selected topic can help promote professionalism in early childhood education.
Lastly, create your video presentation based on your bulleted talking points. You are encouraged to talk as freely as possible, as in a TED Talk Video, covering all talking points. Video presentations can be created in various ways, including, but not limited to, Smartphones, YouTube, or Screencast-O-Matic.
