Quality of A Reentry Program Institutional Review Board Restriction Essay – Description
Complete and gather IRB – My role is to help you assemble the components of your IRB application before it is sent to a member of the Institutional Review Board for the ethics review. I will help make sure that your application contains the documents needed for review and I will keep you updated on the status of the ethics review as we move through the process. If you have any questions about the process along the way, you can email me via IRB@mail.waldenu.edu or 612-312-1283 and I am typically able to respond within a few business days.
Please read the attached FAQs to ensure that you understand the timeframes and roles during this process.
Thank you for submitting your most recent Form A, which is the first step toward obtaining ethics approval. Your study looks interesting and I am confident it will have a positive impact in the field.
Since you seem to be proposing a straightforward study involving non-vulnerable participants and non-sensitive data collection, you will be going through Walden’s expedited IRB process. You will need to submit the following documents to obtain IRB approval:
-A completed Form C application, which is an ethics self-check in which you will confirm how you meet the university’s ethical standards.
-A copy of the interview questions you plan to use. If you are using/modifying any previously published data collection instrument, please also submit documentation of approval to use that tool.
-A draft copy of the consent form you plan to use. Please use the consent form template available online when creating your consent form draft. Your consent form draft must be submitted as a Word document.
-A draft of the invitation you plan to use. Please use the recruitment document template available online when creating your recruitment draft.
-A Letter of Cooperation outlining your partner organization’s specific responsibilities for your project, as well as Walden’s responsibilities. Please note, while we do provide a template, we do not require that our form be used. If the organization prefers to document their approval using their own form, that would be fine.
-A copy of your CITI human subjects protection training completion certificate. If you have not yet completed the CITI training, when you access the site you will need to Register for an account. You will be asked to ‘Select Your Organization Affiliation’ and you should enter Walden University. Then follow the steps to complete your registration.
**Note: If you have taken the NIH training and have a copy of that certificate, you are welcome to submit that document instead. However, as of September 27, 2018, the NIH website ceased offering their training and provided no option to download previous completion certificates from their site.
As you indicated in #8b that you would like to use the Participant Pool, the IRB will begin working with the Walden Participant Pool administration on your behalf, to seek approval to use the site once IRB approval has been obtained. Please ensure that your Form C application clearly describes how you plan to use the Walden Participant Pool as part of your description of your proposed study steps. If you decide not to use the Participant Pool, you will need to update the attached Word version of your Form A to remove reference to the Participant Pool from #8b. If you have questions about how the Participant Pool works, please email participantpool@mail.waldenu.edu.
Once your committee chair has approved for you to submit these materials you are welcome to email your documents (as attachments) directly to irb@mail.waldenu.edu at any time to receive feedback on the ethical issues of your study. You will need to ensure that your committee chair is CC’d on this submission (and all future submissions), as that is how we verify that they have approved for you to do so.
If you have any questions about what is needed for the next step in this review process you may email those to irb@mail.waldenu.edu.
Sincerely,
Libby Munson
