Quality Improvement & Healthcare Organizations Essay – Description
Purpose: Quality Improvement is a key activity in healthcare organizations to improve outcomes of patient care. A common method agencies use is the Model for Improvement that involves rapid cycles of testing small changes over time, called Plan-Do-Study-Act. Nursing students should be familiar with the MFI concepts to participate in quality improvement activities as nurses. For last half of the term, students will work in groups to develop a personal improvement project using the Model for Improvement principles and tools.
Directions: For the QI Project, Part 1, groups will determine an aim statement, identify at least one outcome measure, identify potential causes of not reaching goals, and brainstorm potential changes to test for each PDSA cycle.
During the week, groups will collect baseline data on their chosen outcome measure and create a Run Chart.
The baseline data will be reported as the first 5 or more data points on your Run Chart. Students can use the QI Run Chart tool (attached below), neatly draw a run chart by hand, or use a program of their choice.
All run charts should show the following information:
chart title
horizontal X axis for an appropriate time increment (daily)
X axis label
vertical Y axis for an appropriate measure increment (based on your outcome measure)
Y axis label
a labeled goal line (based on your desired outcome from your AIM statement
I have attached the aim statement worksheet and the outcome measure worksheet with this that you need to use to create the run chart.
Also, the group name is not “lazy bums”..we changed it to “active scrubs” (Just said)
