Qualitative Research Design Discussion – Description

Response 1.) Kimberly
The research method I will use for my dissertation is qualitative research design. The qualitative research design will present the details and data needed to explain and expand the paper’s topic. Using the questions and even statistics to understand data and literature on the topic will be beneficial. The qualitative research design will also gain a more in-depth understanding of the topic.
The general design method will follow the Belhaven website template that shows the dissertation format’s technique and pattern.
This method and design will work best for me because it is more flexible and relies on the researcher’s judgment, so I will have to be careful and reflect on my choices and assumptions to avoid research bias.
Response 2.) Leslie
For my dissertation, I intend to employ a qualitative research approach. Qualitative research is ideally suited to resolving queries regarding why something is (or is not) observed and can aid in developing interventions. Using a qualitative research approach will equip me with more effective tools to resolve various prospective problems. The qualitative nature of the queries will elicit from each respondent more valuable responses. Since open-ended inquiries require the respondent’s critical thinking and unfiltered opinion, they are ideal for gathering information from specialists in a field where the researcher has little expertise. Open-ended questions are exploratory, yield rich, qualitative data, and offer the opportunity to gain insight into all of the participants’ perspectives.
I am currently contemplating one of the two research designs. The first consideration is a Case study design, which will permit me to utilize multiple data sources, including observation, interviews, and documents. In addition, the participants will have a direct or indirect connection to the research question. The surveyed group would be small enough for individuals to read and consider each response.
The second factor is an ethnographic layout. This format will enable me to immerse myself more in the culture of my research subjects. The qualitative data will be collected through direct observation and interaction with participants from that culture, and the information will be presented from their point of view, attempting to comprehend group culture better.

Provide a brief description of each of the three major research methods, quantitative, qualitative, and action research. Give an example of where each would be used.
Researchers typically select the quantitative approach to respond to research questions requiring numerical data, the qualitative approach for research questions requiring textural data, and the mixed methods approach for research questions requiring both numerical and textural data. When determining the type of research method to use, researchers usually evaluate which way is best. Research methods help find and collect data and other information to answer the research question. Ensuring your research is trusted and respected in the study area is essential. Quantitative and qualitative research methods are used when collecting and analyzing data. However, selecting a research method depends on the type of information needed. Quantitative data is numerical. It requires statistical study to interpret the data. Statistical analysis methods include finding the mean, median, standard deviation, and other information using the software. Qualitative data is narrative or visual. It requires thematic analysis to interpret the data. The thematic analysis uses words and sentences to code and gather information into categories. Both quantitative and qualitative data can be used when conducting descriptive research. Examples of quantitative research are descriptive, survey, and correlational. Qualitative research includes one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and case study analysis.
Action research is a methodology of research that is applied in social sciences. Action research conducts research and takes action at the same time. It aims to investigate and solve an issue simultaneously. It is an interactive inquiry process that balances problem-solving measures implemented collaboratively with data-driven combined analysis. Examples of action research are operational, collaboration, and critical reflection.

Briefly describe each of the three major research methods, quantitative, qualitative, and action research. Give an example where each would be used.
Quantitative Research Method
Quantitative research attempts to explain a phenomenon or behavior using mathematical or analyzed data, which include sampling, variable measuring, or structural features of a study.(Burkholder et al., 2020).
Example – Tracking the population growth of a city over the last decade. The study can single out race, age, income, or any variable of interest.
Qualitative Research Method
Qualitative research methods embody realistic interpretive practices that shed light on the world. It consists of field notes, interviews, conversations, photographs, recordings, and memos to the interpreter. The practitioner using qualitative design uses natural settings to analyze or make sense of occurrences regarding the effect people bring (Burkholder et al., 2020).
Example – A study showing how communities work together to plant fruits and vegetables on rooftops and vacant lots in the city.
Action Research
An action research design practitioner conducts direct and immediate information to educate their organization. They evaluate organizational problems from the local level using a natural corporate setting (Burkholder et al., 2020).
Example – A company-wide decrease in orders can be analyzed for the company where the practitioner is based.
