Purpose: To process information in your lecture and reading material on Social Disorganization Theory; to apply your knowledge to an analysis of a documentary.
Tasks:
After watching/reading listening to Lecture Module 4 module video and the required documentary on Amazon Freevee, please do the following by posting a paper or uploading an audio message or video of up to 5 minutes long. This assignment should take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete after doing the preparation for the module. Try to work on it gradually if possible. You should do completely original work and cite all sources. For this assignment, you are expected to draw solely upon your textbook, my lecture and the documentary (and of course your own thoughts) and answer both #1 and #2 below.
Answer questions 1 and 4 at the end of Chapter 5 (Social Disorganization) under Exercises and Discussion Questions. Write (or record) your answers (150-word ) minimum. questions: 1. Explain how shaw and mckay’s (1942/1969) theory moved us away from “types of people” explanations. 5. Consider the city you live in and where the safe areas are as well as where one might likely go to buy drugs or find a prostitude. what other factors characterize those areas of the city? Relate social disorganization theory generally, and Sampson and Groves’ theory of social disorganization specifically as you analyze the video, Can You Dig This?
