1. Type 31.03, 32.31 into the Search box. Zoom out. What is this waterway? You learned about it in this week’s powerpoint.
2. Go to the Bimmeh Sinkhole in Oman. You may have to zoom in. Turn on your ‘Photos’ layer. According to the photos that pop up, what is this sinkhole mostly used for? Be specific.
3. Type Mecca into the Search box. Zoom into about 16,000 ft. See the Great Mosque on the right? Click on it to go there (no closer than about 7,000 ft.). Turn on the ‘3D Buildings’ layer and give it time to load. See the big clock mentioned in the powerpoint lecture? Get close enough to it and click-drag-manipulate it until you can see the clock face. What time is it? Leave your ‘3D layer’ on.
To help you see the clock face better, you can manipulate the two white circles in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. These are your navigation controls. Brief instructions on how to use them will pop up when you mouse over the circles.
4. Go to 25.141, 55.186. This is Burj al-Arab, voted one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. Zoom into ~940 feet. See the circular helipad on top of the hotel? What letter is written on the platform? (This hotel is SO cool. It has a SEVEN-star rating! Look at some pictures.)
5. Go to Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq. See the waterway that runs through this part of town? One section of the waterway is not like the others. This portion of the waterway is probably where sewage or other kind of runoff is diverted. What color has the runoff turned this section of water?
SubSaharan Africa
