This week you learn to integrate foundational and advanced pathophysiology with the assessment and diagnosis of patients presenting with symptoms of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Read the Wk 6 Summative Assessment Patient Case: Focus on integration of Knowledge.

Imagine you are a nurse practitioner who has been assigned a patient for whom you are developing the differential neuropsychiatric diagnoses. Your supervisor has requested that you prepare a thorough summary of the patient, addressing diagnoses and pathogenesis of their diagnoses.

Write a no more than 3-page summary (exclusive of Title and Reference Pages) that accomplishes the following:
Develop a prioritized list of diagnoses, differential diagnoses, and additional areas of concern; include medical as well as neuropsychiatric disorders and related ICD 10 codes. With each diagnosis and differential diagnosis you identify, indicate the DSM-5 criteria that the patient meets.
Describe the current theory or theories on the pathogenesis of this neuropsychiatric diagnosis/these diagnoses. Include the probable neural pathway(s) (i.e., serotonergic, noradrenergic dopaminergic, histaminergic, cholinergic, monoaminergic) and associated neurotransmitters that are being affected and that are contributing to the disorder.
Describe how knowledge of neural pathways of the disorder will affect your treatment options; consider your knowledge of the medical disorders the patient is known or suspected to have in your discussion of treatment options.
