Plastic Pollution and Climate Change Impacts Discussion – Description
Option 1: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Chapter 9 presented a short expose on what has become known as The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (pp. 260). I am also posting a link in this forum to a short video clip on the topic. What is The Great Pacific Garbage Patch? Where specifically is it found (latitude)? Why does it occur in this particular location? What are the local and global implications of the area and what do you think can be done about it? This prompt provides a great opportunity to supply classmates with additional resources, including photographs, maps, data and articles.
Option 6: Birds as an Indicator Species?
The textbook briefly discusses the impact climate change is having on honey bees on page 294. Do some research of your own on the impact of climate change on bees and migratory birds and share your findings. Some concepts to discuss include why birds are considered indicator species, specific species that are showing documented susceptibility to climate change and what changes are taking place in migration patterns. As always, be as specific as possible and include any sources used.
