Pick a traditional cultural practice from somewhere in the world–for instance, arranged marriage, corporal punishment, eating with the hands, tipping at restaurants, or taking shoes off before entering a home. This could be a practice that you read about on the internet, saw on social media, or witnessed first-hand. Avoid picking one from your own culture. In your essay, describe this practice in a few sentences. Next, apply to this practice the first three principles of Donaldson and Dunfee’s integrative social contracts theory (ISCT) as we learned in our class. In your answer, make sure to describe what the microsocial contract (or microcontract) is in this case, define what the community is, and specify who the contractors are. Avoid summarizing ISCT in the essay. A simple summary of the theory will not earn you any credits.

Accurately identifies all steps of the first three principles of ISCT and correctly incorporates any relevant concepts of ISCT. (1 point)
Thoughtfully analyzes and evaluates the application of the theory to the cultural practice as described in the essay. (1 point)
Demonstrates critical thinking skills and logical reasoning supported by well-organized evidence that matches the student’s argument. (1 point)
Demonstrates good composition skills with effective organization and coherent logic following the formatting requirements, without spelling or punctuation errors. (1 point)
