Organizing Your Thoughts and Beginning Your Review: assignment 1 This week, you have three tasks:
Finish your book (if you haven’t already)
Continue your research: You will be asked to share at least 4 sources that you have found through your research. You will include a citation for the source and a summary of the information in that source. Then you’ll explain how that source will be used in your essay. This will be submitted as the Writing Reflection 8.
Create an OUTLINE for the Book Review. This will be submitted as Prewriting 9.
Outlining the Book Review
An outline is a prewriting activity that helps you organize your work so that your draft can start taking shape. This is a good exercise to help you think about the kind of information that needs to go into a book review, what information you already have and how to use it, and what more you might need to help support your review’s argument.
Use the following worksheet to begin your outline. It’s okay if you adapt it to fit your ideas and research, but it should be taken as a good guide for what l’m expecting to be included in your paper: Book Review Outline
The following outline from The University of Washington can provide another way of thinking through what kind of information you might include and how you might structure the essay. This one might inspire some more ideas for your draft. Notice how they develop the body paragraphs for supporting your argument:
