Odessa College Ads Through Sports Discussion and Response – Description
On average 100 million watch the Super Bowl because it is a rare occassion to ensure that you are in front of a large audience and put yourself in the public daily conversation.
Is there a particular commercial(either in the super bowl or outside) that you will always remember? Share a link or description of it.
‘You cannot ignore the super bowl’ is a reason that agencies pay to be seen during the super bowl, what other events can you think of that you cannot ignore? Where would you advertise?
plz respond Antonio the commercial I will always remember is the Snickers commercial with Betty white. The premise of the commercial is to provide a visual aid that “you are not you when you are hungry”. The commercial opens up with a park football game in which a pass is made to Betty White, she then gets tackled. The team comments on his poor performance stating “You’re playing like Betty white out there”. Betty eats a Snickers and is transformed back to his original self. It’s memorable to me because my grandmother would watch golden girls and seeing Betty White get tackled (even if fake) was something I didn’t see coming. Other sporting championships are great places to advertise but are not interjected into everyday life like the Super Bowl. The only other sporting events that would come close is the World Cup and Olympics. These sporting events have a sense of patriotism to them that gets everyone invested in. andrew In spite of my general disdain for advertising, I can’t deny that many commercials are amusing and memorable. An easy example (one that was likely pointed out by others in this course) is the commercial produced by the snack brand Popcorners featuring the characters of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, and the dangerous cartel boss Tuco from Breaking Bad. An early scene is parodied in which Walt and Jesse present their criminal associate with chips, rather than methamphetamine, but Tuco reacts similarly – implying that Popcorners are as powerful and desirable as illicit drugs. It’s humorous and effective, which is more than enough to be memorable.Similar to the Superbowl, it’s common to see an immense amount of advertising surrounding large sporting events, especially related to soccer/football, racing, and combat sports like boxing and MMA. In the position of advertisers, I would be looking at the rapidly growing field of Esports (that being professional matches between competitors or teams of competitors in video games) as a wise investment in the future. This field is likely to only keep growing, rivaling traditional sports over time.
