Recovering from an Insider Threat Incident
Background:
By now, your team has thoroughly researched the chosen case study. You have identified your key assets and analyzed the associated risks. You have developed protection strategies and detection methods, being conscious of people, processes and technology in your organization. Your response plan has just been developed and presented to the board of directors. Now it is time to conclude the process, and close the loop of the NIST Cybersecurity framework… the Recover phase!
Instructions:
Details: Your team will develop the following three (3) deliverables:
1. Press Release Statement: Develop a press release statement according to the guidelines discussed in the lesson. Recall that your press release is for public consumption, so be very careful as to the level of information you choose to share beyond general compliance. Do some research and show the original press release (if available). Compare and contrast to your press release.
2. Letter to Stakeholder/Customer. Develop a letter that specifically addresses the incident in the case study, how it may have affected the stakeholder, and what you have done to both mitigate the incident and steps taken to reduce the risk of future similar incidents. Note that this letter should be reassuring to the stakeholder / customer. Again, be aware of the level of detail in this letter and carefully review any non-essential information you may be releasing.
3. Create a presentation to the board of directors to summarize your findings from parts (1) and (2) above. In this presentation, make sure to briefly define the Recover pillar, so that your audience is aware.
