Oakton Community College The Enlightened Times Discussion – Description
Discussion: My Newspaper Board
After watching Citizen Kane, consider the power that one newspaper magnate held in the palm of their hands back when physical newspapers were the go-to source for news. If you inherited a newspaper business and had total freedom to shape your paper however you wanted, what would your newspaper look like? What would your newspaper’s title be? For this “My Board” activity, you will be writing the headline article for the first issue of your newspaper. (Note: You will not actually be creating a newspaper in this class. In other words, this is not an activity that carries into future modules.)
Instructions:
• Part I: Write one paragraph directly in the discussion board describing what kind of newspaper yours would be. Include the name of your newspaper and the kinds of articles you would be running. Explain why you have chosen this specific angle for your newspaper.
• Part II: In a separate document, write a 1-page newspaper article about an issue that ties into the general theme of your newspaper. For example, if your newspaper were politically-focused, you would write a headlining article about a political topic. If your newspaper is entertainment-focused, you would write a headlining article about something entertainment-related. If your newspaper is a community newspaper, you would write about a community issue.
