The safety of the patient’s and nurse’s was the largest ethical issue during the COVID-19 Pandemic in my opinion. The code of ethics puts in place that the nurse’s primary duty is to the “recipient of nursing care”, however it also states that the nurse has nurse’s have a duty to “promote their own health” (Morley et al., 2020). The lack of resources such as adequate personal protective equipment during the pandemic made it difficult for nurses because the lack of knowledge on the virus had them putting themselves at risk and threatening their own health, while trying to put their patient’s first at the same time (Morley et al., 2020). They were forced to choose between putting their patient’s or putting themselves first when it came to safety. This is why I believe that patient and nurse safety was the largest ethical issue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
