Regulations and accreditation are the main enforcement of modern day medicine and some of the ways we standardise care. According to PSNet, “Regulation and accreditation are not identical. Regulation involves rules that must be followed, while accreditation is a seal of approval (from some accrediting body) certifying that an organisation or individual has met specific standards.” (PSNet, 2009) With an emphasis on quality and safety in healthcare, regulations ensure rules are being met while accreditation maintains the honesty of the organisation through their certifications and quality improvement measures. Additionally, accreditation has been seen to be much more effective in the promotion of safety error reporting and creating public awareness. Most hospitals employ accreditation as the primary driver of safety efforts. (PSNet, 2009) Regulations and accreditations can also cause a shift in quality distribution as well. Promoting voluntary improvement work and holding campaigns to hold managers and clinicians accountable produces quality and safety goals that are achievable and ultimately make a difference.

discussion 2
Regulations are laws for healthcare professionals to follow. Regulations help enforce a quality healthcare system by establishing a clear framework for high-quality, safe, and effective patient center care (Kreutzberg, 2019). Imagine if there weren’t any regulations, everybody would do whatever they thought was right, compromising patients’ safety. Regulations are updated to be safer as we learn from what works and what does not.
Accreditation in healthcare companies is when they comply with and meet external accreditation organization regulations and standards (Impact of Accreditation on Quality in Healthcare, 2020). Moreover, it proves that the company is providing high-quality care, reinforces the company, and helps them comply with regulations and laws of healthcare. Accreditation help enforce a quality healthcare system by improving the quality of care, increasing community confidence, reduce insurance liability. To attain accreditation, the staff is held responsible for high standards of care, demonstrates to patients’ organization can be trusted, and lastly, help the organization modify the procedure to be safer if they notice something during the required comprehensive review of the organization (Impact of Accreditation on Quality in Healthcare, 2020).
