MSU Nursing The Use of Critical Thinking Abilities Essay – Description

The “Critical Thinking Analysis Paper” documents the outcomes of the development of

critical thinking skills over the course of the program. What is critical thinking?

According to our textbook, “In nursing, critical thinking is the ability to think in a

systematic and logical manner, solve problems, make decisions, and establish priorities

in the clinical setting” Masters, p. 127 and “It is the competent use of thinking skills and

abilities to make sound clinical judgements and safe decisions” Masters, p. 444.

The six critical thinking skills we will be addressing are: analysis, evaluation,

explanation, inference, interpretation, and self-regulation. Provided below is a list of

assignments from the BSN Program of study to help remind you—you may have others

from your nursing elective courses to use as well.

Please select an example (a short

excerpt) from ONE of your assignments that demonstrates critical thinking skills.

This paper should have an introduction explaining critical thinking and then have 6

headings. Each of the six critical thinking skills should be identified and defined using

the Handout provided for Unit One located in Appendix C. Then, the selected passage is

copied into the paper verbatim and referenced by course number and assignment name.

Then provide an explanation of why you selected this passage and how the passage that
