Mandatory Assignment: Self-Assessment

Each Self-Assessment needs to first indicate which two (or more) Assignments you are reviewing for the two week period. Your Assessment should be focused on the Skills you feel you have demonstrated throughout your two Assignments for that week. Each Skill should require a statement of at least 100-150 words to prove your usage of the Skill (for example, if you are seeking to acquire four Skills from the two Assignments that week then you will need a Self-Assessment that is at least 600 words).

If your Skills are adequate, but the Self-Assessment is lacking then you will receive an Incomplete for the Assignment, which means you must redo it until it meets the requirements.

Research:

Primary source – find and use a Primary source

Secondary source – find and use a Secondary source

Scholarly source – find and use a Scholarly source

Source analysis – show proficiency in using sources

Argumentation:

Thesis statement – write an argumentative statement that contains a position (a stance you will defend in the essay) and a claim (justification for that stance)

Providing evidence – give evidence that supports the thesis statement in the form of a quotation and citation 

Developing an argument – develop an argument around the thesis and the evidence

Critical Thinking:

Current events – apply a historical source or event to current events

Intersectionality – applying concepts of ethnicity, race, sex, gender and class to historical contexts

Pattern recognition – understanding historical and symbolic patterns

Historic bias and perspective – recognition of bias in all sources, including primary

Terms and concepts – using historical terms to explain content

Application of Knowledge:

Recall of history – ability to recall historical aspects from previous weeks and use them in their context

Historic understanding – use of events, people, or places in student’s work

Historic proficiency – understanding and use of historic content in a long form medium 

Note: The two assignment I have completed for the last two weeks, 

1. First week my assignment was (Short argumentative Essay “Native American and current US societies” from the book- The American Yawp chapter 1).

2. Second week my assignment was (Journal “The British Colonies in America” from the book- The American Yawp Chapter 4).
