1. For this week’s discussion, I chose to conduct my quality survey at the McDonald’s fast food restaurants located just a few blocks away from my house. During my visit at the McDonald’s located at 3073 West Oakland Park boulevard Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I decided to order a large quarter-pounder with cheese value meal and a large caramel frappe as a substitute for my beverage. Being that I have the McDonald’s mobile app already on my cell phone which offers me deals and a hassle-free check out, my order had been placed prior to me walking into the popular food chain. It just so happens to be that this particular McDonald’s recently underwent a major renovation throughout the entire building. With that being said, the exterior building, windows, and smooth parking lot of fresh laid pavement gave an extremely satisfactory initial experience as I entered the restaurant. The McDonald’s app instructed me to report to a specific location / register to relay a specific generated code to the associate. I have to say, I was very impressed on how smoothly the process went to obtain my order which came out as ordered without any mistakes. The associates working immediately acknowledge my presence and greeted me by assuring me that my order would be right out. This particular McDonald’s has come a long way from where it was prior to the extensive renovations that were made. I remember a few bad experiences I had in the past which were not present during my stay this time at the location.
The employees behind the counter were organized and remained professional throughout the entire length of my dining visit. Structure and Synergy amongst team members were aparent. The specific meal I ordered is one that requires the cheeseburger to be made-to-order, meaning the cook does not begin cooking the burger until the order is placed. Because I ordered the specific meal choice, my expectations on quality, temperature, and preparedness were slightly higher than if I had chosen any other selection. Everything from appearance, temperature, to taste exceeded my expectations. I had zero complaints in regards to my meal. In the state of Florida, the division of hotels and restaurants requires safety and sanitation inspections in each county for fast food restaurants such as the one I chose to dine in at. The details of these up-to-date inspections are made available on our state capitals web page where each restaurant can be easily searched. Upon searching the specific McDonald’s location I visited, I found the last inspection by the division of hotels and restaurants had been conducted on March 14th, 2023, and the inspection deew up zero violations or fines upon completion. (Tallahassee Democrat, 04/14/2023) This coincided with my assessment of the restaurant’s cleanliness, food quality, and employee retention. The Florida department of health is also responsible for carrying out their own inspections periodically. The DOH conducts routine inspections as mandated, re-inspections when violations have been found, and/or complaint inspections that are conducted in response to a citizens complaint of the particular restaurant. (Florida Health, 04/08/2021) Each inspection of a restaurant must adhere to Florida’s specific food and safety systems that are required to protect both employees and consumers from potential hazards or foodborne illnesses.
2. Although I have a Taco Bell right next to my house I chose to go to one a little further away because the one closest to me is currently closed except drive-thru due to renovations. The store approximately a mile away is the one we chose to go and visit. The external appearance of the restaurant was immaculate. It has just received the same renovations my closest Taco Bell is currently receiving so it is very clean and maintained. Even the shrubbery was immaculate. When we walked in the door the first thing we noticed was the cleanliness and the refreshing smell of being genuinely clean. The floors were all but sparkling as we had gone just after the lunch rush. The employees greeted us before we even full had the door shut behind us with smiles on their faces. After we ordered we sat at one of the tables because the kids wanted to sit in the tall chairs. The employee on the front counter noticed that we had small children and instead of calling our number, she chose to go above and beyond and bring the tray out to us. She then stood there as we checked everything to make sure our order had been made to our satisfaction. We did not see any obvious safety hazards and the restrooms were clean, easily accessible, and even pleasant to use. Shout out to the management because managers are what make the employees want to work harder and do better for the customers. The managers’ attitudes directly influence the health and safety of the inhabitants.
