JSOU FBI Officials and The Joint Special Operations Command Discussion – Question Description
I’m working on a writing discussion question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Below is a link to an article on the FBI (DOJ) working with USSOCOM / JSOC (DOD) in overseas combat zones and actively participating in SOF missions such as Direct Action on target. Just as the military is restricted in performing military operations on US territory, should the DOJ be restricted in performing combat operations with the DOD? Is this the DOJ overstepping its bounds, even if it is what the DOD wants or requests? Does the SOF operator see an enemy combatant and the FBI agent see the same person as a suspect who has rights? Are lines getting blurred and are people starting to get mission creep or stepping over a line, maybe a blurred line? If the FBI is providing advanced skillsets for SOF is that a “good reason” for them to be on target in combat zones? Could not these skills be taught to SOF personnel? What are your thoughts about this topic, personal and professional?
