Week 6 Discussion 2
Using your research questions and research topic, identify your independent and dependent variables. Next, identify your research hypothesis and null hypothesis. Then, comment on two of your classmates’ posts and explain whether their research hypotheses and null hypotheses are appropriate for their identified research questions.
For my research topic on the effectiveness of telehealth in treating Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), my research questions revolve around assessing the impact of telehealth interventions on depressive symptoms, treatment adherence, and patient satisfaction.
Independent variable: Telehealth intervention (e.g., frequency of telehealth sessions, duration of treatment) Dependent variables: Depressive symptoms (measured using standardized scales such as PHQ-9), Treatment adherence (measured through self-report or electronic monitoring), Patient satisfaction (assessed through surveys or interviews)
Research hypothesis: Increased frequency and duration of telehealth sessions will be associated with greater reductions in depressive symptoms, higher treatment adherence, and increased patient satisfaction.
Null hypothesis: There will be no significant association between the frequency and duration of telehealth sessions and changes in depressive symptoms, treatment adherence, or patient satisfaction.
Upon reviewing my classmates’ posts:
One classmate proposes to investigate the relationship between exercise habits and stress levels among college students. Their research hypothesis suggests that regular exercise will be associated with lower stress levels, while the null hypothesis posits that there will be no significant association between exercise habits and stress levels. These hypotheses are appropriate for their research question as they clearly articulate the expected relationship between the independent variable (exercise habits) and the dependent variable (stress levels) while also providing a null hypothesis for comparison.
Another classmate aims to explore factors influencing consumer preferences for eco-friendly products. Their research hypothesis suggests that demographic variables such as age and income will be associated with consumer preferences for eco-friendly products, while the null hypothesis states that there will be no significant association between demographic variables and product preferences. These hypotheses align well with their research question and provide clear predictions about the relationship between independent and dependent variables.
