HLTH 644 LU Eating Disorders Discussion – Description
Respond to the following discussion post in 200-250 words in AMA format.
There are many different reasons there is a rise in obesity, not just overconsumption of food or laziness. Depending on where an individual lives, the environment around them could not have sidewalks, affordable gyms, or a park.¹ These can influence the ability to maintain health when it is tough to live a healthy lifestyle safely. Some areas do not have access to proper grocery stores or can not afford the fresh fruits and vegetables offered there. There are many areas in our country that are considered food deserts. Not to mention the unhealthy food that is always being advertised which will convince people that is the food they need. To help reduce some of these issues, we either need to stop some of the advertisements or advertise healthy foods that can motivate people to eat fruits and vegetables. The problem with this is that money is involved in all parts of this problem and it will never be that simple. Another way to reduce these issues would be to provide free home workouts, sidewalks, or more public parks. The environmental factors that have led this country to obesity have not been solved yet because these problems are not easy to fix and it may involve someone or some company to lose money to help the overall health of the public.
The US obesity rates compared to Taiwan obesity and the UK obesity rates is a shocking difference. I found that “Americans are much more likely to be very obese: 13.4% of the total US sample, 10.1% in England, and about 1% in Taiwan.”² Compared to the UK and Taiwan, people are more likely to become or continue to be obese in the United States.
Faith can help us overcome anything including obesity. Having faith can help us to remember to take care of our bodies for God. Going to church and having people support us can also help us remember why we are here.
1 Corinthians 10:31.
Because God wants you to take care of the body He’s given you, your food choices are important. Can you look back on the day’s eating and say that you gave God glory with what you put into your body?
