instructions: responses must NOT deviate from these questions. Some responses will have special instructions, which are always specified on the course calendar, so please make sure to always read the writing response questions and instructions carefully. Each response must be 1-single-spaced page written in 12-point Times New Roman font with 1- inch margins. Responses should NOT include headings, titles, or extra spacing between paragraphs. Plan to fill the entire page. Please see the writing response template in Canvas if you are unsure about formatting instructions. You must submit your response on Canvas as a Word or PDF document. Responses submitted in another format or as corrupted files will receive a zero. Please ensure your response was properly submitted after uploading your assignment to Canvas. Instructions for Quoting and Citing: Some responses will require you to engage, quote, and cite the reading. When quoting, do NOT quote incredibly lengthy passages. If a quote exceeds four lines in your document, you should paraphrase some of the material. Students should alsoNOT quote extraneously or needlessly, such as quoting only to define a term. Quoting just to quote when the quote does not meaningfully contribute to the response will affect the response’s grade commensurately. Likewise, quoted material should NOT consist of more than 40% of the response. Do NOT draw from outside research in your responses. Only draw from the required reading. Make sure that you are always properly citing the text when quoting. Proper citation entails placing a parenthetical citation with the page number at the end of the quote, such as this: (17). Do not worry about writing a bibliography or mentioning the author’s name in a signal phrase.
