Harper University Family Dilemma Discussion – Description
First, think about some moral dilemma you’ve encountered.
It must be a dilemma. A “dilemma” is a situation in which there are at least two choices of action, and all available choices have advantages and disadvantages. In a dilemma, the choice is never a clear or easy one.
It must be a real dilemma that you have faced or that someone you know has faced or something you’ve read about really happening – no hypotheticals or fictional events. It’s got to have really happened.
It has to be a real moral dilemma. That means that the person involved is being forced to make a choice between two courses of action, both of which require him or her to do something morally wrong in order to do something morally right. This isn’t a case of choosing between doing what’s right and doing what’s wrong. It’s deciding to act, when both actions are morally questionable. For example, imagine that you have to choose between betraying a family member or friend by turning him or her in, and letting that loved one hurt someone.

*Small story about me: I grew up in Syria. When the war started I believe in 2011, I was only 9 years old. Did not go to school because of the war. In 2006 my parents applied for a refugee visa so we could come to the US. We got a phone call in 2014 to come to the US. So from 2011 till 2014 I did not go to school, we could not go out, it was not safe. I had to leave my cousin and my friends there and come to the US. It was not easy for me and my family since I grew up in Syria. I had no English when I came here. We are in 2023 and there are a lot of people who are still in need of help. My parents did not want to come here to the US but as a safer country yes. We come from a different country with a different culture and this is why my parents did not like us to cme to the US. They had no other choice because of the war. It was not easy for us to start a life here. But as of today I am grateful for what my family and I have achieved. Such as speaking english and going to school and also working.
