Gran Canyon University Adolescent Pregnancy in NJ Response – Description

  Svitlana
Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health (CDC, 2022). As the metabolism slows during middle to late adulthood, many individuals begin gaining weight while physical agility and performance become more difficult (GCU, 2022).
Physical activity can also decrease feelings of anxiety, and regular activity can reduce long-term feelings and signs of anxiety (NHLBI, 2022).
Physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural mood-boosting chemicals in the brain. Aerobic exercises such as jogging, cycling, swimming, or dancing can be effective in reducing anxiety symptoms. This exercises also can help burn calories, increase metabolism, and reduce body fat.
According to WHO, the obesity issue has grown to epidemic proportions, with over 4 million people dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese in 2017 (WHO, 2023).
Anxiety is the most common mental disorder in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults (ADAA, 2023).
As a nurse, I would talk to patients and ask them about their current physical activity. I would explain how exercise can help with weight and anxiety. I would suggest activities like walking, jogging, or cycling for about 150 minutes each week. I would listen to their preferences and make realistic goals. I would also tell them how exercise can make them feel better overall.
