Georgia Northwestern Technical College Cybersecurity Discussion – Description

Discussion 2 will pose a different question to each group that asks you to think about how you view the world. Please answer the questions completely using 400-500 words.
Because students who take this course are interested in being better global citizens, I want to get your view on the world. Thinking about the world allows you to think about the past in order to change the future. Research shows that students who think about global issues are more than twice as likely to see the importance of personally taking social action.
Below are some interesting research findings related to thinking about the world from a student perspective:

Sixty percent of secondary students ranked understanding different cultures as the most important subject area, ahead of writing skills and math skills. As technology makes our world more accessible, and because classrooms are increasingly diverse, students recognize the need to understand the cultures of others, as well as their own.
Nearly all (98 percent) of students tend to agree that a strong understanding of the world and current issues are critical to developing solutions to global problems. Students are interested in being better global citizens. Learning about world events in the classroom allows them to study the past in order to change the future.
Research shows that students who learn about global issues are more than twice as likely to see the importance of personally taking social action. Global learning encourages awareness and critical thinking about issues such as poverty, climate change, religious and cultural differences, world trade, and politics.
Nine out of 10 students, teachers, and industry leaders recognize that jobs are becoming increasingly international. There is a broad understanding that globalization results in companies that are more diverse than ever before. The number of multinational corporations continues to rise as developments in technology and transportation revolutionize the workforce.

In philosophy, normative theories aim to make moral judgments on events, focusing on preserving something deemed as morally good, or preventing a change for the worse. Normative environmental theories include prescriptive sets of values and actions related to the environment. What values related to the environment do you see in yourselves and others that inform your actions? What role should the government (either local or federal) have in regulating the actions of individuals as they relate to the environment globally?
